YNLS’s list of Ten Best Life Changing Books
01 Rich Dad Poor Dad, Robert Kiyosaki
This book is the most important book on financial management you could ever read. It’s what started me on my personal development journey and taught me so much. I always knew property was a good investment but never really understood why until I read this book. It teaches you how to build wealth by investing in assets (something that earns you an income), as opposed to liabilities (something that costs you money). Essentially it teaches you how to make your money work for you rather than you working to make money.
02 Secrets of a Millionaire Mind, T Harv Eker
This book makes you think about your money habits and your attitude to money, called your financial blueprint, and why you inherently have that attitude. If you want to move to a higher level of life, you have to be willing to let go of some of your old ways of thinking and being and adopt new ones. It’s full of really practical advice and strategies to take away and use.
03 Get Rich, Lucky Bitch, Denise Duffield-Thomas
I loved this book so much I read it twice! It’s so empowering with amazing practical steps about how you can release your money blocks and manifest more money into your life. There are so many ways we self-sabotage and don’t even know it – this book helps you to open your eyes to the ways you may be doing this and how you can move on from it. A must for female entrepreneurs
04 Miracle morning, Hal Erod
It’s no coincidence that the most successful people I know are all early risers! And have a morning routine they like to follow to set their day up right. The first few things you do in the morning can have a massive impact on how the rest of your day goes. This book gives you a great routine to follow to help you start your day right – and no, it doesn’t involve checking Instagram or Facebook!
05 Grit, Angela Duckworth
I loved this book. I was fortunate enough to read it before it went into production (one of the perks of having friends who work in publishing houses!) It’s about how the most successful people we know are not that way because they are clever, or talented, or lucky, but because they have passion and perseverance and do not quit when the going gets tough. It doesn’t take talent to be as good as Andy Murray in tennis, it takes tens of thousands of hours of practice, sheer dedication, and of course Grit.
06 Thrive, Arianna Huffington
Arianna Huffington is the co-founder and editor in chief of popular news website Huffington Post and one of the most influential women in the world. I loved this book as it is all about finding the right balance in the pursuit of success. To be successful you need to be healthy and she places a high priority in looking after both your physical and mental health, being kind to yourself and being present with loved ones in your life.
07 The Compound Effect, Darren Hardy
This book was a real eye opener on how easy it is for either a good or bad choice to put you on an upward or downward trajectory. It’s how the little steps, applied consistently can massively pay off. It’s all about tracking your daily habits, being disciplined and the rewards will come.
08 The Cash Flow Quadrant, Robert Kyosaki
The Cash Flow Quadrant is another Robert Kyosaki classic. It explains how there are four sources of income; Employee, Self-Employed, Business Owner and Investor in his Cash Flow Quadrant. On the left side of the quadrant you will find Employee and Self-Employed. On the right, you will find Business Owner and Investor. People in each quadrant have different core values and that is what separates them into different quadrants. Robert Kyosaki gives his take on what side of the quadrant you will want to be on if you want to create wealth.
09 Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill
Think and Grow Rich drives home the power of association, who are you surrounding yourself every day – are they lifting you up or pulling you down? It’s a classic that has inspired millions of entrepreneur’s around the world. Napoleon Hill had an amazing insight into Andrew Carnegie’s (he led the expansion of the steel industry in America during the 19th century) secret to success. Carnegie was the richest man of his time, and Hill was able to study the philosophies of more than 500 of the most successful people in America because of his relationship with Carnegie. This classic presents a systematic approach to developing the skills and mindset required to achieve exceptional success in any field.
10 You are a Badass, Jen Sincero
This is one of those books that gives you a kick up the backside, tells you to get over yourself and just get on with it if you want to live your life to the fullest. It’s a fun read. I actually nearly never read it, it was gifted to me, and I pre-judged it thinking it would be pretty crap, but I was wrong to judge (how does that saying go – don’t judge a book by it’s cover!) and I really enjoyed it. Another book to grow your mindset and confidence and generally just to get over your damn self!
